The method involves providing components e.g. printed circuit board components, and aligning the components in and/or on a work-piece carrier. A support (2) is provided to hold the components. The support is positioned relative to the components. Mechanical and electrical interconnections are formed between the components and the support, where the interconnections are formed by laser welding. The support is made of a laser-absorbing material or a laser-transparent material. The components are made of the laser-transparent material. An independent claim is also included for a component for manufacturing a transmission control unit.
