<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a turbocharger wherein a sliding bearing has suitable emergency operation action when a lubricating oil film does not normally function, and thereby, prompt failure of a bearing accompanied by a complete malfunction of the sliding bearing according to circumstances can be avoided. <P>SOLUTION: The turbocharger includes a shaft supporting an impeller, and at least one sliding bearing rotatably supporting the shaft in a bearing casing. The sliding bearing is constituted by two bearing members, and the two bearing members have a sliding surface allowing sliding movement while being rotated oppositely, and the sliding surface of one of the two bearing members is formed to be softer than the sliding surface of the other bearing member.
