Rubber with a low water absorption is obtained by causing the bacteria and enzymes present in natural latex to act on the white fraction of the latex for at least 44 hours at a pH of 6 to 9, and thereupon separating the white fraction into a cream and coagulating the cream. The white fraction may be obtained by removing the yellow fraction by centrifuging at a suitable pH, by stirring the latex at a suitable pH, or by partial coagulation and removal of the yellow fraction. Creaming may be effected by means of illis mannae meal solution, and coagulation by the addition of formic acid. Specification 594,938 is referred to.
