[Class 83 (iii)] A recessing tool-holder, particularly for screw machines, comprises a non-rotatable supporting member guided in a rectilinear path to and from the work, and carrying another member slidable on a face arranged at an acute angle with respect to said path, is characterized by a spring housed in one of said members and urging the supported member toward the work, means for adjustably limiting response of this member to said spring and stop-engaging means carried by this member, effective upon encountering a stop during advance of the toolholder towards the work, to induce a relative travel of the members along said cam faces, whereby the supported member is moved transversely to the tool advance. The supporting member 5 of the holder is provided with a shank 6 by which it may be secured to the main tool slide 7, Fig. 1, of an automatic screw machine. An inclined dovetail guideway 9, Fig. 7, is provided in this member for the supported member 4 which carries a tool-bar 2 with a recessing tool 1, Fig. 4. A spring 21 is interposed between these members, the tension in which can be adjusted by a screw 19. A head 20 on this screw acts as an abutment to limit the sliding movement of the supported member effected by the spring. A block 24 secured in a recess in the supported member carries at one side a roller 27 and on the other side is provided with a bore through which an operating rod 29 is adapted to pass. This rod is pivotally anchored at 31 to a stationary part of the machine and at the other end is provided with nuts 30 which are adjustable to stop the supported member at a predetermined point to start the transverse movement or recessing operation of the tool 1. The tool 24 is reversible so that the roller 27 may effect the stopping of the supported member by contacting a bracket fixed to the headstock end of the machine. |
