The magnetic encoder comprises magnetic elements (8) forming a pole pair. Each magnetic element comprises a magnetization ratio between the North Pole and South Pole portions adjusted at a given characteristic target curve seen for the position of each magnetic element in displacement or rotation direction. An independent claim is also included for a measurement system for measuring the absolute position of a displaceable or rotatable body corresponding to a reference body.
