PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce scrape at an end of a photoreceptor due to end discharge of a charging roller without adding special constitution to the charging roller. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus equipped with the charging roller 102 which uniformly charges the surface of the photoreceptor 101, a discharging LED 106 which discharges the surface of the photoreceptor 101 prior to the charging, a developing means of forming a toner image by sticking toner on an electrostatic latent image formed by exposing the charged surface of the photoreceptor 101, and a transfer roller 105 which transfers the toner image to a transfer material, potentials of the surface of the photoreceptor 101 opposed to both the ends of the charging roller 102 are maintained by controlling an area discharged by the discharging LED 106.
