PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for melting treatment of asbestos waste are provided to reduce the amount of energy consumption of a plasma torch. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for melting treatment of asbestos waste comprises: a melting chamber(10) in which asbestos waste is provided through a connection part formed in one end upper part thereof; a furnace(30) which is equipped inside the melting chamber and receives asbestos waste provided to the melting chamber; a plasma torch(50) which is equipped in the upper part of the melting chamber and melts asbestos waste accepted into the furnace; and a stepped part(70) which is formed in the direction of the inner side of a connection part.
