The invention provides an engine aftertreatment apparatus and method comprising first and second diesel particulate filters (DPFs), the first DPF being a partial diesel particulate filter (PDPF) provided upstream of the second DPF and arranged to trap smaller particles and allow larger particles to flow through the filter, and the second DPF being a selective catalytic reduction diesel particulate filter (SCRDPF) provided with a coating of a second DPF catalyst, the second DPF catalyst being arranged to promote reduction of nitrogen oxides (NOx.). This reduces the particle loading of the second DPF and reduces the number of active regeneration events required by the second DPF filter. |
