The method involves attaching a power-braked device i.e. trailer (2), to an engine-driven commercial motor vehicle i.e. tractor (1) so as to determine a drag moment or an appropriate parameter of a diesel engine (4). A brake signal is determined depending on the drag moment. A brake (16) of the device is operated depending on the brake signal. Speed of the engine is detected, so that the drag moment is selected from speed or drag moment characteristic depending on the detected speed. Braking force is adjusted depending on a speed ratio effective at a continuously variable transmission (6). An independent claim is also included for a brake system comprising a device for detecting drag moment of a vehicle. |
