CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating dementia contains homoisoflavanone of chemical formula 1 or 2 or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient. The pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating dementia contains Polygonatum odoratum extract isolated using acetone, ethyl acetate, or methylene chloride. A food composition for preventing or treating dementia contains Polygonatum odoratum extract or homoisoflavanone of chemical formula 1 or 2, pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
