PURPOSE: A semiconductor memory device and an operating method thereof are provided to reduce unnecessary power consumption by blocking the toggling of a plurality of read global data line in writing. CONSTITUTION: In a semiconductor memory device and an operating method thereof, a plurality of reading global data lines are arranged between a plurality of write global data lines. A plurality of reading line driving unit(350) drives the plural reading global data lines in writing. A write line driving unit(320) drives the write global data line. A write driving part(330) drives a positive/negative input-output line. A sense amplifier(340) senses and amplifies the data of a memory cell. A pipe latching unit(360) arranges the plural data and outputs it to a pad.
