<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To refine an H<SB POS="POST">2</SB>SO<SB POS="POST">4</SB>phase and an HIx phase that are Bunsen reaction products in the iodine-sulfur cycle, including a minute amount of HI and H<SB POS="POST">2</SB>SO<SB POS="POST">4</SB>so as to avoid generation of side reaction. <P>SOLUTION: In the refinement of the H<SB POS="POST">2</SB>SO<SB POS="POST">4</SB>phase and the HIx phase, a mixed gas of oxygen and an inert gas are used. In a process thereof, the perfect refinement of the H<SB POS="POST">2</SB>SO<SB POS="POST">4</SB>phase can be achieved without consuming H<SB POS="POST">2</SB>SO<SB POS="POST">4</SB>by HI oxidation, 4HI+O<SB POS="POST">2</SB>=2I<SB POS="POST">2</SB>+2H<SB POS="POST">2</SB>O different from a conventional refinement mechanism using only the inert gas, i.e., the reverse Bunsen reaction, 2HI+H<SB POS="POST">2</SB>SO<SB POS="POST">4</SB>=SO<SB POS="POST">2</SB>+I<SB POS="POST">2</SB>+2H<SB POS="POST">2</SB>O. In the refinement of the HIx phase using an oxygen-containing mixed gas as a stripping gas, oxygen in the mixed gas properly reacts with a by-product S or H<SB POS="POST">2</SB>S to form SO<SB POS="POST">2</SB>, so that a selection rate of SO<SB POS="POST">2</SB>can be increased as compared with the conventional refinement using only the inert gas. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
