METHOD OF MANUFACTURING SECONDARY BATTERY AND ELECTRODES THEREOF

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a secondary battery having excellent charge/discharge cycle characteristics.

SOLUTION: A secondary battery has an electrode containing silicon or silicon compound. The electrode includes: a layer of a metallic material; a layer containing silicon or silicon compound and provided over the metallic material layer; and a mixed layer of the metallic material and the silicon between the metallic material layer and the layer containing silicon or silicon compound. In the secondary battery, the metallic material has a larger affinity for oxygen in comparison to an ion which exchanges an electric charge inside the secondary battery, and the oxide of the metallic material is not insulative. The ion which exchanges an electric charge may be an alkaline metal ion or an alkaline earth metal ion.
