<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gateway device which allows reduction in time and effort required to resolve a problem by facilitating identification of a part where the problem has occurred and its cause in the event of a communication failure. <P>SOLUTION: A trace processor 22a is provided on a general purpose LAN 5 side of a protocol conversion processor 21, and a trace processor 22b is provided on a unique network 3 side. The trace processors 22a and 22b obtain a copy of data passing bidirectionally through the protocol conversion processor 21 on the opposite sides of the protocol conversion processor 21, and transfer the copy to a trace common processor 23.
