<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent damage to an optical amplification medium, etc. by a simple configuration when a trigger signal is not received during the operation of a regenerative amplifier. <P>SOLUTION: An optical amplifier 1 includes an optical amplification section 10. The optical amplification section 10 includes an optical resonator to resonate pulsed light, an optical amplification medium 11, and light extraction means 21 to extract the pulsed light out of the optical resonator. The light extraction means 21 includes a light modulation section 151 to control the polarization state of the pulsed light by electro-optic effect. The optical amplifier 1 includes a voltage supply section 70 to supply driving voltage Vd to the light modulation section 151, and a drive control section 80 to send a control signal Sc to the voltage supply section 70. The drive control section 80 produces the control signal Sc from the trigger signal synchronized with a seed light and sends an alternative signal Scd instead of the control signal Sc to the voltage supply section 70 to output the driving voltage Vd in a predetermined cycle or continuously when a trigger signal error is detected. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
