PURPOSE: A lead storage battery charging method is provided to perform rapid charging by gradually reducing a charge current according as a battery charge voltage is reached to a gas generation voltage. CONSTITUTION: In a lead storage battery charging method, a current source(10) generates a charge current to charge a battery with a constant current. A detection unit(20) detects the terminal voltage of a battery which is charged according to a charge current supplied from the current source. A voltage comparative part(30) sets the gas generation voltage of the battery by a predetermined voltage in advance. A voltage comparison unit compares a battery voltage with a reference voltage. A charge current controller gradually reduces total current supplied from the current source to the battery according to a corresponding signal.
