PURPOSE: A system and a method for changing the nickname of a messenger utilizing an SMS are provided to simply inform a current generation event with a letter transmission method by using a mobile terminal in which a user posses. CONSTITUTION: An SMSC(Short Message Service Center)(50) receives a terminal number, a receiving number, and a changed nickname as a SMS type through a sending MSC(Mobile Switching Center) from a mobile node. The SMSC transmits the terminal number, the receiving number, and the changed nickname to a naming change server(70) if the type of the receiving number is corresponds to the preset value. The nickname changing server selects a messenger server corresponding to the receiving number among a plurality of message servers. The nickname changing server stores the changing nickname in the selected messenger server by changing the nickname by using the changed nickname.
