PURPOSE: A guide device for a rolling mill and a method of controlling the same are provided to enhance productivity by inhibiting a rolling mill from malfunctioning by preventing a target from becoming inserted into the gap between guide rollers. CONSTITUTION: A guide device for a rolling mill comprises next steps. It is determined whether a target is ejected from a work roller. A driving unit operates to raise a guide panel(70) arranged between guide rollers(50). The guide roller is installed between a work roller and a pinch roller. The guide panel is arranged between the guide rollers. The guide panel includes a synthetic resin panel. It is determined whether the target is inserted into the pinch rollers. The driving unit operates to lower the guide panel. The driving unit raises the guide panel. The driving unit comprises a cylinder.
