<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently absorb impact force by a cross member without increasing a plate thickness of a reinforcing member against a side collision. <P>SOLUTION: A vehicle body structure of an automobile includes the reinforcing member 1 whose one end 1a is connected to an upper surface 14g of a side sill 14 and the other end 1b is connected to an upper surface 36a of the cross member 36. A dish-shape recess 2, and a bead 3 that crosses the middle part of the recess are disposed in a part of the reinforcing member which forms a slope from the upper surface of the cross member to the upper surface of the side sill. An outer edge 2a of the recess is formed to linearly reach a portion lower than the upper surface of the side sill. The strength against a side collision load in the reinforcing member is enhanced, and the load applied from the side sill to the cross member due to the side collision can be dispersedly received by the reinforcing member. Further, the high strength reinforcing member is achieved. This eliminates the need to increase the plate thickness thereof, and also reduces costs. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
