<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a user to obtain a picture image in which a preference of the user is reflected through a simple operation even if the user does not have knowledge of parameters. <P>SOLUTION: An image pick-up mode is automatically set on the basis of a recognition result of a scene by an automatic operation. When a center key 102 is pressed, the image pick-up mode is locked, and a shading adjustment mode is set (S3 and S4). In the shading adjustment mode, a shuttle key 103 is turned to adjust shading (change an F value). Shading adjustment is performed by adjusting the F value in a program diagram of a selected image pick-up mode within a permissible range of change in image quality. When a soft key 104 is pressed, the shading adjustment mode is terminated, and the mode is returned to the automatic operation (S7).
