<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress adhesion of foreign objects to a magnetic recording medium before magnetic transfer carried out after polishing. <P>SOLUTION: After wiping and burnishing of a surface of a magnetic recording medium 1 on which a vertical recording layer is formed, the burnished magnetic recording medium 1 is received, for example, in a substrate cassette made of a resin containing an antistatic agent, and transported to a pre-transfer medium reception unit 12 of a surface inspection/magnetic transfer device 10. In the surface inspection/magnetic transfer device 10, the magnetic recording medium 1 is taken out of a storage container 12a (substrate cassette) located in the pre-transfer medium reception unit 12.
