<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that prevents an image defect or belt damage caused by flapping of a transfer belt when a transfer current is applied. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a transfer roller that brings a transfer belt into press contact with an image carrier from the back side of the transfer belt and is applied with a transfer current, and a plurality of support rollers for supporting the stretched transfer belt. At least one of the support rollers has an inverted crown shape whose central part has a diameter smaller than that at the end.
