<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform engagement of a pinion with a ring gear at an optimal timing. <P>SOLUTION: An ECU 40, when starting an engine, performs cranking of the engine 20 by rotating the pinion 14 in a state of engaging the pinion 14 of a starter 10 with the ring gear 22 connected to the output shaft of the engine 20. The ECU 40 includes a plurality of prediction means for respectively predicting engine rotation speeds in a plurality of preset rotation speed falling modes when the engine rotation speed falls by automatic stop of the engine 20. The ECU 40 makes a changeover as to by which of respectively predicted values of the plurality of prediction means timing for engagement of the pinion 14 and the ring gear 22 is determined, and controls driving of the pinion 14 to engage the pinion 14 with the ring gear 22 at the engagement timing determined on the basis of the predicted value after the changeover. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
