PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve display unevenness with reversible reaction of a drive transistor.
SOLUTION: A drive transistor 121 driving an organic electroluminescent (EL) element 127 exhibits a reversible reaction phenomenon in which it tends to temporarily return to an original degradation-free state when a power is switched from ON to OFF so that a bias applied to the drive transistor 121 is eliminated from an energized state that occurs when an image is being displayed. Because the quantity of return in the reaction varies from pixel to pixel, display unevenness is caused to thereby degrade display quality. As a countermeasure, the drive transistor 121 is driven (preferably, linearly driven) in a predetermined bias state before it drives a display device following power-on. This cancels the current variation and the associated variation in display luminance, which are resulting from the reversible reaction, and restores the drive transistor into its original, degraded state. Thus, the variation in return quantity between pixels can be reduced and the current variation caused by the drive transistor 121 can be alleviated. As a result, the display unevenness induced by the reversible reaction phenomenon can be improved.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
