PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine that suppresses deterioration in combustion caused by bypassing a turbine of a turbocharger.

SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine includes: an internal combustion engine body 50; the turbocharger 40 where a turbine 42 is provided on one side of an exhaust pipe connected to the internal combustion body 50; a ternary catalyst 22 that is disposed down the stream of the turbine 42; a bypass passage 43a that bypasses the turbine 42 and directly flows exhaust into the ternary catalyst 22; a valve 43 that opens and closes the bypass passage 43a and an ECU1A that increases a cylindrical internal pressure when the bypass passage 43a is opened by the valve 43 and the exhaust is directly flowed in the ternary catalyst 22.
