<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus, a power control method and a program that can reduce a standby power by controlling a power supply when a manuscript is placed during a plotter operation. <P>SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus that reads image of the manuscript checks whether the plotter for printing on predetermined media is in operation when the manuscript is placed on the image reading apparatus. If it is confirmed that the plotter is in operation, the power supply is controlled not to be supplied to the image reading apparatus.
