<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of selectively encrypting and concealing imaging information that needs privacy protection and preventing malfunction of another apparatus and software and an image file generating method. <P>SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises: an imaging unit 106 that images a subject and outputs image data; an information generation unit 124 that generates additional data including a plurality of items from the imaging information of the image data; an encryption unit 132 that encrypts imaging information of at least a part of items of the additional data selected based on predetermined conditions; a file generation unit 128 that generates an image file by adding the additional data to the image data; and a recording unit 140 that records the generated image file in a recording medium.
