<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display capable of improving transmittance, while maintaining excellent voltage response characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: A pixel electrode 12 has a first sub electrode 12A, a dielectric layer 13, and a second sub electrode 12B in order from a liquid crystal layer 15 side in a liquid crystal display 1. A magnitude relation between an applied voltage to an area A right above a slit in a liquid crystal layer 15 and an applied voltage to an area B without the slit in the liquid crystal layer 15 may be controllable according to a purpose by optionally setting electric potentials Va and Vb supplied to the first sub electrode 12A and the second sub electrode 12B, respectively. Driving is carried out to reduce an electric field distortion in the whole liquid crystal layer 15 when displaying an image to suppress a decrease in local transmittance due to the slit position. In a manufacturing process (pretilt imparting process), electric field distortion (lateral electric field) favorable to imparting a pretilt is generated. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
