<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image control unit capable of preventing an error by avoiding a set delay of timing for finishing the read of image data even in case of a delay in processing of a command to show detection timing of the rear-end position of a manuscript or in processing in connection with image data. <P>SOLUTION: When a sensor 15 detects the rear-end position of a manuscript that is not scanned yet, a priority command is input/output from a scanner control unit 21 to an image control unit 31 and the image control unit 31 is given priority in confirming the priority command. If timing for finishing the read of image data based on processing in connection with a normal command and image data is set within a certain period of time from the time point of confirmation of the priority command, or in other words, if setup of timing for finishing the read of image data is not delayed, the image control unit 31 considered the timing for finishing the read of image data to be valid.
