Disclosed is a vehicle engine controller which provides a vehicle with an improved starting capability in a situation where the vehicle can start with difficulty. The controller includes a starting-difficulty determining means (82) and an output control means (84). The starting-difficulty determining means (82) determines whether the vehicle is difficult to start running, on the basis of the manipulation frequency of engaging and disengaging a clutch (14) by the vehicle operator. If the starting-difficulty determining means (82) has determined that the vehicle is difficult to start running, then the output control means (84) allows an engine (12) to deliver less drive force for an amount of manipulation ACC of an accelerator pedal (28) as compared to the case where the vehicle is determined to be not difficult to start running. This configuration allows for implementing starting of the vehicle in a preferred manner without requiring an elaborate accelerator pedal manipulation and clutch operation, for example, even when the travelled road surface has a relatively low friction coefficient and thus only low torque can be transferred.
|
