Producing silica gel particles, comprises carrying out hydrolytic polycondensation of an alkoxysilane to a polyalkoxysiloxane in a two-phase system using an organic porogen and a phase mediator. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a catalyst carrier produced by the above method; (2) producing heterogeneous catalyst suitable for synthesizing polyolefins, comprising (a) producing the carrier by the above method, with at least one organometallic compound of a (half-)metal of third or fourth main group, and (b) reacting the carrier with at least one compound of a transition metal of the sub-groups 3-8, to produce the heterogeneous catalyst; (3) a heterogeneous catalyst comprising at least one organometallic compound of a (half-)metal of third or fourth main groups, and at least one compound of a transition metal of sub-groups 3-8, where the heterogeneous catalyst comprises the above carrier; and (4) producing polyolefins comprising producing the heterogeneous catalyst by the above method, and using an olefin compound of formula (R 1>CH=CHR 2>). R 1>, R 2> : H or 1-20C alkyl (optionally cyclic).
