The method involves setting a monitoring signal of a technical device i.e. printing unit drive, of a printing machine to a value when two of signals (101) of a sensor exhibit a condition. A control signal is supplied for controlling the technical device based on the sensor signals when the monitoring signal has another value. The supply of the control signal is inhibited when the monitoring signal has the former value. A determination is made to find whether the sensor signals are short-circuited to a control voltage terminal before setting the monitoring signal to the former value. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for monitoring signals of a sensor (2) a printing machine comprising technical devices (3) a computer-program product with a program code for executing a method for monitoring signals of a sensor.
