The apparatus (1) has a heatable ultrasonic cleaning device (2) e.g. ultrasonic cleaning bath, including a cleaning agent e.g. cleaning fluid (11), and a device (3) for drying process of a tool and removal of the cleaning agent from cleaned tools e.g. trowels. Temperature of cleaning fluid amounts to 60-65 degree centigrade, and frequency of the ultrasonic cleaning device amounts to 45 kilo Hz, where the cleaning fluid contains nitrilotriacetic acid, sodium salt and pyrophosphate. A stripping device e.g. stripping plate, enables stripping of material e.g. PVC, from the tool. An independent claim is also included for a method for cleaning tools using putties or spatulas.
