The invention relates to an intrinsically safe converter (4) or a converter (4) comprising a safety unit (7), and to a method for the safe operation of a converter (4) for rotating electrical machines (6), the converter (4) being arranged between an energy accumulator device (5) and a rotating electrical machine (6).
