<p>Disclosed is a method for high-yield manufacture of glass base material. In the manufacturing method for glass base material, glass base material is produced through a fixation step, a deposition step, a drawing step, a clarification step, and a solidification step, in that order. In the deposition step, the mean density of a deposit of fine glass particles around a tubular handle (12) is made greater than the mean density of a deposit of fine glass particles deposited around a starting rod (11). Variation in the mean density of the fine glass particle deposit in a longitudinal direction within a range of ±50mm in the longitudinal direction from the boundary position of the starter rod (11) and the tubular handle (12), should preferably be 0.01g/cc/mm or less from the beginning of glass particle deposition until the 10th layer.</p> |
