<p>A pressure relief valve [10] that controls pressure by two features: the combination of the diameter [42] and tensile strength of the shear pin [36] used and the offset placement of the valve shaft [14] relative to the center [44] of the pallet [12] to which it attaches. The shaft [14] that has ends [20] extending through the valve body [22] to the exterior of the valve [10] and a breaking arm [26] attached to each end [20]. Each arm [26] cooperates with a pin receiver [30] attached to the valve body [22] to hold opposite ends [34] of a shear pin [36] therebetween when the valve [10] is closed. As pressure is applied to the pallet [12], the breaking arms [26] rotate and shear the web portion [40] of the pins [36] at a very accurate and repeatable opening pressure, allowing the pallet [12] to open. The pins [36] can be replaced and the valve [10] reset without removing the valve [10] from service. One or more shear pins [36] may be employed.</p> |
