Provided is a method for connecting an external member to the anode lead or the cathode lead of a rechargeable battery comprising: an electrode assembly of a stack/folding type or stack type having an anode plate/separating film/cathode plate structure; an anode tap and cathode tap electrically connected to the respective anode plate and cathode plate comprised in the electrode assembly; an anode lead and a cathode lead on which the anode tap and the cathode tap are respectively laminated, having an electrical connection therebetween; and a casing for housing the electrode assembly such that a part of the anode lead and a part of the cathode lead project to the outside; wherein the external member and either the anode lead or the cathode lead are connected by means of seam welding.
