A method and an apparatus for adjusting data transmission rate are provided in the present invention. The method includes the following steps: during the period for adjusting data transmission rate, a transmitter end judges the tendency of the data transmission rate according to the channel state information (S402); determining the data transmission mode and the modulation and encoding mode according to the tendency of the data transmission rate (S404); and the transmitter end sends data with the determined data transmission mode and modulation and encoding mode (S406). By applying the method and apparatus provided in the present invention, the problem that the data transmission rate and the channel conditions are unmatched is resolved, the stability of links is enhanced, and the throughput of the system is improved.
