An apparatus and method for moving connection equipment on a drilling rig, the apparatus comprising a stem 190 and an extension apparatus 100 comprising a mount 141, at least a first linkage 110, a second linkage 120, a third linkage 130, a support 18 for supporting connection equipment and powered extension apparatus 150. Upon activation of said powered extension apparatus said linkages extend or retract to move said support away from or towards said stem. Said powered extension apparatus comprising at least one powered piston - cylinder apparatus having, an inner floating piston 606, a piston shaft 608 extending through the inner floating piston and movable with respect thereto, having one end connected to shaft piston 607 and the other movable to extend. The inner floating piston and the shaft piston dividing an interior of a housing 605 into a first chamber 621, a second chamber 622 and a third chamber 623, the location of the floating piston dictating the maximum extent of the piston shaft. |
