PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a superior antiseptic for cosmetic of which the use amount is less, the skin stimulativeness is lower, and furthermore, the antibacterial spectrum range is wider, and a cosmetic containing the same. SOLUTION: The antiseptic for cosmetic is formed by containing a nitrogen-containing compound expressed by chemical formula 1. In the formula, R is an 8-22C straight or branched chain aliphatic hydrocarbon group; A<SP>1</SP>and A<SP>2</SP>are each a residue obtained by removing all of hydroxy groups from a (poly)oxyalkylene diol having a (poly)oxyalkylene group consisting of 1-11 total pieces of oxyethylene units and/or oxypropylene units, provided that, the total pieces of oxyethylene units and/or oxypropylene units in A<SP>1</SP>and oxyethylene units and/or oxypropylene units in A<SP>2</SP>are 2-12.
