PURPOSE: The transmission control device of an auto transmission is provided to determine the malfunction of an engine by detecting the number of rotation of the engine, torque, acceleration opening degree, the gradient of a drive road, and loading capacity. CONSTITUTION: An engine rotation detection part(3) detects the number of rotation of an engine. An engine torque detection part(4) detects engine torque. An acceleration opening degree detects the gradient of a drive road. A loading capacity detection part(7) detects loading capacity. A controller shifts down the transmission range of an auto transmission when the loading capacity which is detected form the loading capacity detection part is over than establishment loading capacity which is established in advance.
