PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbonized foam and a method of manufacturing the carbonized foam which is basically small in pressure loss, capable of freely controlling a bubble diameter in a range from several μm to several ten μm, and also high in shape designing property obtained by reducing a rate of shrinkage at the time of carbonization by heating, by manufacturing it by heat pressing and carbonizing, after forming coating layers on inside and outside surfaces of the foam with thermosetting resin, wherein, a melamine foam of thin skeleton is used as a base material. SOLUTION: The coated foam 16 composed of base material 12 of melamine resin foam and the coating layer 14, which is obtained by drying the thermosetting resin applied on the whole out side and in side surfaces of the foam, is heated in an atmosphere of no oxygen, and carbonized, and constituted so that the carbonized foam has a three dimensional communicating bubble structure, and its bubble diameter is <=100 μm, and its tensile strength is at least >=0.1 MPa. |
