In an axially displaceable support for a revolving back centre 4, one part of the axial pressure is taken up by an axial ball bearing 27 supported by spring washers 22, 23 whose force is less than the minimum axial pressure, while the remainder of the axial pressure is taken up by an inclined ball bearing 26 via a sleeve 21 after deformation of the said spring washers has occurred. The back centre 4 is disposed in a member 3 rotatably mounted at its forward end in roller bearings 5 and at its rear end in a ball bearing 26. The outer race 18 of the bearing 26 bears against a shoulder 39 provided in a spindle 2. The washers 22, 23 act between the race 18 and the thrust bearing 27, and surround the sleeve 21 with clearance. Axial clearance 28 is provided between the sleeve 21 and the inner race 19 of the bearing 26. The axial load is shared approximately equally between the ball bearings 26, 27. |
