A portable receptacle 10, e.g. for spectacles, comprises first and second body portions 12, 14 which are actuable between open and closed conditions about a first axis (38, FIG.7). The body portions 12, 14 are shaped such that the receptacle has a generally hollow interior when closed. The body portions 12, 14 are joined at a hinge 28, 30 having a hinge axis which is obliquely angled relative to the first axis 38 in the closed receptacle condition. The hinge 28, 30 deflects relative to the first axis during opening. A rear opening 26 is provided between the hinges 28, 30. The receptacle may advantageously be opened by applying a deflection force to the hinge 28, 30 with only one hand. |
