An electronic parking permit device for use by disabled drivers is disclosed. The electronic parking permit device comprises a fingerprint reader, a display, and a series of LEDs. The display shows the present time. When a user wishes to use the parking permit device they must scan their fingerprint using the fingerprint reader. The received fingerprint data is compared to the stored fingerprint data of a registered user. If there is a match, then use of the device is allowed, a green LED is illuminated and a timer is started which is also shown on the display. When the timer reaches certain predetermined times, different coloured LEDs may be illuminated to indicate that parking time is nearly expired and is expired. The device may also have a GPS receiver to detect movement of the device which may indicate fraudulent use and so the device may be deactivated. The device may also log various operations carried out on the device within the device memory. The invention seeks to overcome the fraudulent use of the present Blue Badge disabled-driver parking permits.
