SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR VEHICLE DETECTION IN WIRELESS NETWORK OF SIGNALLING DEVICES

Invention herewith described refers to the system and method for detecting vehicles in a wireless network of signalling devices. The invention presents the specific system and methods for detection of vehicular traffic without the special sensors. The invention relates to the use of radio transmission associated with a low-power wireless communication protocol existing in the system and in the smart road-edge marking method. The invention is realized using the measurement of the received signal strength indication (RSSI), which has become a standard feature in most wireless devices. Techniques based on the received signal strength indication (RSSI) measurement do not require additional devices, thus contributing to the smaller size and lower price of the device and more simplified maintenance. Also, this technique has no significant impact on the power consumption. Three different solutions for the detection of vehicles based on measurements of RSSI values of the wireless signal are given in the presented patent.
