The machine has a tool carriage displaced along a guide path (5). A spindle stock (1) is arranged on a plane lying with distance over the guide path. A protective cover (10) is partially driven under the spindle stock and/or a chuck. The spindle stock is arranged at a yoke (11) lying with distance over the guide path, where the yoke is fastened to a support structure (12). The support structure is provided in a longitudinal direction of a machine bed (6) on two sides of the guide path. The yoke clamps the guide path, so that a gap (13) is formed between the yoke and the guide path. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing a processing machine.
