A method of providing medical notification and a medical notification apparatus are disclosed. The medical notification apparatus (30) comprises an acoustic sensor configured to generate a sensor signal in response to an acoustic alarm that is generated by a medical device (28) and is indicative of a medical device parameter; a signal processing unit (34) in communication with the acoustic sensor and configured to generate an identification signal when the sensor signal from the acoustic sensor satisfies an identification criterion (72); and an interface unit(48) in communication with the signal processing unit and configured to send a message signal to a healthcare facility call system (22) in response to the identification signal from the signal processing unit.
