Disclosed is a thiophene compound according to formula IB: wherein R1, R2, R3 and Y is defined in the specification e.g. 5-Cyclohept-1-enyl-3-[(trans-4-hydroxy-cyclohexyl)-(trans-4-methylcyclohexanecarbonyl)- amino]-thiophene-2-carboxylic acid or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, a pharmaceutically acceptable solvate thereof, or a solvate of a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof for treating Hepatitis C virus (HCV), bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV), hog cholera virus, dengue fever virus, Japanese encephalitis virus or yellow fever virus.
