Disclosed is a heterocyclic alkene compound of formula (I) which is substituted with an alkene or alkyne. The substituents are as disclosed in the specification. Examples of compounds encompasses by formula (I) are 1-(3-nitro-2-pyridyl)-4-[3-(6-fluoro-3-pyridyl)-prop-2-ynylidene]-piperidine and 1-(4-cyano-2-nitrophenyl)-4-[3-(6-methyl-2-pyridyl)-prop-2-ynylidene]-piperidine. Also disclosed is a pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound of formula (I).
